Our school, Gediz Imam Hatip Lisesi, is a vocational school in Gediz – one of the districts of the city-Kutahya, Turkey. Gediz is a small settling place but it is really sweet. It is between the forests surrounded with small streams and lakes. It has got a unique culture with its way of life; folk dance, dialect, clothes, the food they eat, their own kind of music, its nature and the history.
The economy is based on industry and agriculture. There are coal mines and some factories on marble, plastic lime, sewing, and cotton. Generally, people’s means of subsistence is, as a result, based on the privatized institutions which work on those industry products; and farming on the individual soils. In our school, there are several student parents whose economical condition is good enough to make a living, but meanwhile many of them have a low economical income, especially those who work in a factory with a minimum wage and those who are farmers.
Our school has approximately 170 students and our students are learning English in their first and second grade at school.
