Sweden
Our school is in a small town where many immigrants/refugees are settled. However, we do not have a big body students with different social & cultural backgrounds, which makes them a farther reality for our students. We would like our students to learn about them, -their culture, history, traditions, etc to be able to accept them and live with them without problem, and we surely wish to create an open- minded, tolerant, and caring youth, free from prejudices of all sort.
As a part of their projects in history lessons, they study history of Europe and this project will give them a chance to exchange knowledge and information of each involved country’s- and the others not involved- role in shaping today’s European society and to develop a better understanding the whole world.

Pride and prejudice
06/02/2010 - 8:16 pm
We had our second meeting in Belgium between January 28 and February 3 and discussed the work we all had done in our schools concerning the project, presented provisional “course lay out/content” to integrate into our own school syllabus later. Students worked on a brochure based on the results of the survey:( Pity not many have answered the survey questions, yet the results were very informative about our prejudices/ biases! Now it is time we discuss the meeting with our colleagues and students, plan the next stage and meeting!

Another quick entry about the ongoing project work at school:
Last month has been very hectic for both the students and the teachers, yet my students managed to put together a power point presentation of their finding about Poland, next country to visit in June.
Next week, June 2nd, a group of students will be working on a film to bring with us to Poland. They will use the results of the survey. t is too early to say much but I am very positive that the outcome will be amazing.
Another activity we have planned for next week, just before the summer holiday is to bring our students together with students at IVIK program. They will have a chance to confront their prejudices( ıf they have) and surely realize that they have so much in common.
Meanwhile, we have been discussing the visit to Sweden in September, trying to find activities that will both be informative and fun as well!
